Job Title: Universal Service Worker

Status: Nonexempt, (hourly – on call as needed)

Reports To: Program Manager

Starting Compensation Pay: $16.72/hr

PURPOSE: The Universal Service Worker monitors the health status of the clients/individuals and address their health-related needs, such as changing bandages, dressing wounds, or reminding them to take medication. The USW provides assistance with routine healthcare tasks and/or activities of daily living, bathing, toileting, or ambulation. We might also help with tasks such as preparing meals, doing light housekeeping, and doing laundry depending on the patient’s abilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide patients with help moving in and out of beds, baths, wheelchairs, or automobiles and with dressing and grooming.
  • Give medication reminders.
  • Provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients.
  • Serve meals.
  • Care for patients by changing bed linens, washing and ironing laundry, cleaning, or assisting with their personal care.
  • Maintain records of patient care, condition, progress, or problems to report and discuss observations with supervisor.
  • Entertain, converse with, or read aloud to patients to keep them mentally healthy and alert.
  • Assist and engage patients in exercises and/or daily activities.
  • Assess the value, importance, or quality of things or people.
  • Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, or verify information or data.
  • Complete all cleaning task daily.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the ability to provide personal care, support activities of daily living, monitor resident well-being, and maintain a safe and supportive environment. The individual must be able to follow established care plans, agency procedures, and supervisor direction while maintaining professionalism, compassion, and confidentiality. The employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED:

Degree/Field Required: High school diploma, or GED

Additional Fields of Knowledge Important for the Role:

  • Personal care and activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Medication reminders and basic health monitoring
  • Housekeeping and sanitation practices
  • Resident safety and wellness
  • Documentation and recordkeeping
  • Customer service and resident support

Experience Preferred:

  • Previous healthcare, caregiving, direct care, residential, or human services experience.

Licenses/Certifications Preferred:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Skills Required:

Manager-Specific: N/A

Basic: Strong written and verbal communication skills, active listening, documentation accuracy, observation skills, and attention to detail. Ability to follow instructions, routines, and care plans while maintaining resident dignity and safety.

Social: Ability to build positive relationships with residents, family members, coworkers, and service providers. Demonstrates compassion, patience, professionalism, and respect in all interactions.

Problem Solving/Decision-Making: Ability to identify changes in resident condition, recognize potential safety concerns, exercise sound judgment, and promptly report concerns to appropriate supervisory staff.

Proficient Computer Skills In: Outlook, Word, electronic documentation systems, database management software, and data entry platforms.

Expert Computer Skills In: N/A

Resource Management: Ability to prioritize daily responsibilities, complete assigned tasks, maintain cleanliness standards, and support multiple residents while managing time effectively.

Technical: Ability to document resident care activities, maintain records, assist with activities of daily living, provide medication reminders, and follow established safety and care procedures.

Trauma-Informed: Must display a willingness to adopt trauma-informed interventions, principles, and practices and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development in trauma-informed care. Recognizes the impact of trauma on individuals, families, staff, and communities and applies trauma-informed principles in all resident interactions.

VEHICLE RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

Access to reliable transportation: Required.

Access to a reliable automobile: Not Required but Preferred.

Proof of continued auto insurance: Not Required but Preferred.

Valid driver’s license: Not Required but Preferred.
