Position Summary
The Organization of Management/Confidential Employees (OMCE) is seeking a motivated and passionate professional to advance our mission of advocating for New York State Management/Confidential (M/C) employees. This position combines membership outreach, legislative advocacy, government relations, and public engagement to strengthen OMCE’s voice across New York State.
The successful candidate will work closely with OMCE leadership to recruit and retain members, build relationships with elected officials and state agencies, coordinate advocacy campaigns, and support legislative initiatives that improve the rights, compensation, and working conditions of M/C employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, retain, and engage OMCE members through outreach, presentations, and events.
- Build relationships with New York State legislators, agency officials, and stakeholder organizations.
- Coordinate legislative advocacy efforts, including tracking bills, preparing advocacy materials, and organizing member action campaigns.
- Represent OMCE at legislative meetings, conferences, employee orientations, resource fairs, and other public events.
- Assist in developing and implementing OMCE’s legislative agenda and strategic advocacy initiatives.
- Respond to member inquiries regarding employment-related issues and direct members to appropriate resources.
- Draft newsletters, website content, social media updates, legislative alerts, and membership communications.
- Monitor legislative, regulatory, and workplace developments affecting Management/Confidential employees.
- Collaborate with staff to increase membership participation and organizational visibility.
- Travel throughout New York State as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, Labor Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in legislative affairs, government relations, labor advocacy, membership organizations, public policy, or nonprofit advocacy preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Ability to build professional relationships with members, legislators, and agency representatives.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
- Willingness to travel statewide and work occasional evenings or weekends.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of New York State government and legislative processes.
- Experience working with advocacy organizations, professional associations, or labor organizations.
- Familiarity with membership recruitment and retention strategies.
- Event planning and public outreach experience.
