Cottage Door Press is a young, dynamic, and award-winning children’s publisher located in Rolling Meadows, IL. Our focus is on bringing high-quality, educational, and engaging content to the littlest readers, while motivating parents and caregivers to read aloud from birth in support of our “reading is learning” philosophy.
Under the guidance of the Art Directors, this role will help with the conception and design of multiple book titles across children’s categories. This Intern will learn how to demonstrate strong storytelling through art, thoughtful illustrator management, and the production expertise required to bring projects from initial conception to print-ready execution.
Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate with the creative team to develop design concepts
- Receive feedback from the creative team and make necessary changes
- Work within design templates and use branding guidelines to make changes to books for reprints
- Retouch and manipulate images, both photography and illustrations
- Format JPGs and PDFs from working mechanical files
- Hand-build flats and samples
Requirements:
- Enrolled and attending college for graphic design, fine art, or a related field
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
- Familiarity with Mac operating systems
- Strong interest in books and reading
- In-office attendance 2 days per week. Estimated 20 hours per week.
